These quick as easy routine guides have been designed to help give you a better idea for what makes a good blackhead prevention skincare routine. If you are unsure of your skin type, then take a look at our skin type guide. If you are suffering from severe blackheads, then a good skincare routine may not be enough. In that case, please consult our main page for more information.
Oily Skin
First and most importantly you must resist the temptation to touch your face all day! Transferring oils from your hands to your face increases the risk of blackheads and acne, so please don’t do it! If you must touch your face make sure to wash your hands beforehand. Also, though it may be a secret pleasure of yours, never pick or pop your blackheads and pimples, this may cause scarring and longer healing time.
Daily Routine
Both in the morning and at night you should cleanse, tone and moisturize your face. A great time to do this is in the shower or bath as the warm water will open up the pores. First apply the cleanser by massaging it into the skin (some products require you to leave the product in for a minute or so, so make sure you read the instructions).
Next, remove the cleanser with warm water and cotton pads, leaving no trace of cleanser behind as it can irritate the skin if left on. Now apply a small amount of toner to the face and do not wash off! Toner restores the skin’s natural pH levels, making the skin more resistant to damage from micro-organisms and general wear and tear.
Although it may seem counter-intuitive, you should use a daily moisturizer, especially in dry weather. Apply enough moisturizer so that the skin does not feel tight, but not so much that the skin feels oily.
If you are currently experiencing advanced acne or blackheads, then we suggest that you use a more advanced facial cleansing routine. The Exposed Skin Care, 60-day treatment, is our go-to recommended product, as it is suitable for all skin types and we believe it to be the most effective treatment on the market.
Weekly Routine
Once or twice a week exfoliate with either an exfoliating facial wash or a manual exfoliator. We find facial washes to work the best. It is good to use a clay mask after exfoliating. French green clay is best for people with an oily skin type. In addition to a good skin routine, using a dedicated blackhead removal product is also very important if you are suffering from severe blackheads.
Combination Skin
Combination skin type can sometimes feel like a nightmare to control; this quick guide will help you see that it is not as difficult as you think!
Daily Routine
The first step is to find a gentle, water-soluble cleanser which is either foam or gel based. This cleanser should be used twice a day, so avoid cleansers with irritants such as added fragrance. Try to avoid bar soaps as they often contain chemicals which clog pores.
After using your gentle cleanser, apply toner. Once again, your toner should not contain irritants such as alcohol, methanol, witch hazel or fragrance. Do not wash the toner off after applying.
It is a good idea to use a day cream/sun cream during the day, especially if you live in a dry area. Not only will this keep your skin looking fresh and healthy but it will also prevent wrinkles and other sun damage.
Due to the nature of combination skin, you will need to use different products for different areas of your face. A rich, creamy moisturizer should be used on the dry skin areas, and a lotion moisturizer may be used for the oily areas. A matte finish foundation works best for combination skin. However, you must apply primer to the dry areas first.

Weekly Routine
Once again, exfoliation works wonders. By using an exfoliating facial wash once a week you can uncover the soft healthy which lies beneath. An exfoliating facial wash with beta hydroxy acid is best for your skin type. As well as exfoliating they also unclog and reduce the size of pores.
As with all skin types, we really recommend a clay mask once everyone 1-2 weeks as this is one of the best blackhead removers! Bentonite clay is best for your skin type. If you are still struggling with blackheads then using pore strips once a week can be useful.
Normal Skin
A normal skin type usually does not require much more than a simple wash every day and perhaps a clay mask every couple of weeks to keep your complexion looking radiant. If there isn’t a problem, there’s no need for a blackhead remover.
Dry Skin
Daily Routine
Your morning routine should consist of washing your face using a gentle cleanser for dry skin types and then moisturizing. The most important aspect of dry skin care is to keep your skin moisturized at all times. This means carrying an all day moisturizer/cream with you at work or school! It is also important to keep moisturized from within by always carrying a bottle of water and eating plenty of fresh fruit.
Before bed, use a gentle makeup remover and clean your face with the same gentle cleanser you used in the morning. Before going to bed, it is great to rub in a thick and rich night cream to prepare you for the next day.

Weekly Routine
Once a week you may want to use a manual exfoliator or exfoliating wash to clean out the pores and remove any dead skin, be careful not to be too rough on sensitive areas. After this, you can use a clay mask. Bentonite clay is best for dry skin types, mixed with some soothing ingredients such as honey, oils, butter, yogurt, and milk. Before long you will feel that dry, rough complexion clear up nicely.
Sensitive Skin
The best blackhead removers for sensitive skin are blackhead products with natural non-irritant ingredients. Though these products can sometimes be more expensive, it is worthwhile as they make all the difference.
We recommend that you follow our other guides and make sure to use products which do not contain irritants such as alcohol, methanol, witch hazel or fragrance. Almost all products listed on this website are natural and gentle as we believe that getting rid of blackheads naturally is best.
